In the municipality of Akhaltsikhe, the construction of the Mtkvari HPP project on the Mtkvari River is underway. The total installed capacity of the project is 53 MW, the average annual electricity generation is 251.5 million kWh. It should be noted that the estimated annual capacity of the project is 1.9% of the total electricity consumption in Georgia (13.4 TWh in 2019). The project will be completed in early 2022.
